Katy & Jake | Married! | Royal Oaks Resort, Virginia Wedding Photographer

Already dressed in her flowing white dress embellished with cerulean flower petals, Jake's daughter Katelynn quietly flipped through the scrapbook Jake had given to Katy the night he proposed. Katy glanced over at both the book and Katelynn, and beamed as her mother and bridesmaids excitedly laced her up her gown. This day, so long in the making, had finally come.

The weather was quite unusual for August, as temperatures lingered in the high sixties and thick, intermittent clouds of fog rolled in to kiss the mountainside throughout the day. Every bride may dream of bright, sunny skies on their wedding day but the cool, misty, romantic atmosphere could not have been more comfortable and welcomed in the middle of an otherwise scorching summer. The atmosphere of comfort, it seems, was perfectly fitting of the essence of Jake and Katy's relationship. The way they held each other, fell into each other's arms, the way they exchanged secret smiles when they thought no one was looking. It was all so comfortable, so easy, and so right.

I was enamored with their "lovebird" theme and particularly loved that the flower girl (Jake's BEAUTIFUL daughter Katelynn) dropped feathers on the aisle instead of flower petals, and the ring bearer (Jake's adorable son Jacob) brought the rings down the aisle in a little birds nest, adorned with 4 little birds representing each of them as a family. Jake and Katy opted to do a first look before their ceremony, but that didn't stop Jake from being completely overwhelmed with emotion as he saw Katy's father leading her down the aisle toward him. Tears were flowing from Jake, family, and friends as they exchanged heartfelt and personal vows to love and serve each other and their family for the rest of their lives. Katy promised to love and care for Jake's children as her own, and Jake promised to always love and protect her, through thick and thin (my camera may or may not have gotten all smeary with tears). After the ceremony, the new family of four spent the evening dancing, celebrating, and enjoying warm embraces from adoring friends and family.

Congratulations to Jake, Katy, Katelynn, and Jacob, the happy new family! So much love to all four of you, you deserve it! It was an honor and a pleasure to document your love and your special day! Cheers!
