Kristen and Jason | Engaged! | Fredericksburg Virginia Engagement Photography
"Are you sure you don't want to just wait it out in the car?" I asked cautiously, as we exchanged excited hugs in the pouring rain. "Nope, let's just go for it!" Kristen smiled as we exchanged hugs and I showed off my "rain gear" -aka a camera wrapped in the only resource I had available at the moment, saran wrap...(of course I would leave my real camera cover tucked unceremoniously in a bag at home). Despite my warnings that their clothes, hair, everything would be soaked for the session, I was STOKED that Kristen and Jason were willing to run out and catch the last of the storm, and just like that, we got one of my favorite shots to date. :-) Kristen and I were childhood friends, and I have many fond memories of us on family beach trips, exploring the stream near her childhood home, having sleepovers, and generally being goofballs together. I am still trying to scrounge up some of the pictures I took of her with my dinky film camera I was so excited about when we were in sixth grade; I hope I've improved a little since then. ;-)
It was my first time meeting Jason, and I was SO impressed! I could go on and on about how genuine, talented, and head over heels in love with Kristen he is, but I'll just mention one of my favorite moments from the afternoon, as we were finished up and heading back to the car. I was admiring Kristen's stunning, classic engagement ring and we landed on the topic of ring insurance. I mentioned that despite having insurance, I bet my husband would still be pretty grumpy if I was to misplace mine, which led Kristen to jokingly ask Jason how he would feel if hers was lost. "It's just a thing" he replied. Kudos to you Jason, if I didn't know that you were being completely genuine, I would say you're the smoothest talker ever. :-)
To me, his response was a fantastic representation of one of the most beautiful characteristics of both of their personalities and their relationship. They place value on people, on moments, on love, and on the things that really matter. Did it matter to them that their clothes would be wet for their engagement shoot? No. It mattered that they were together; it mattered that they are in love with each other and in love with life. This engagement shoot was perfect for them as nature lovers, and all three of us enjoyed tromping through the woods and along the stream (even if my face was the official "spider web clearer"). :-)
I can't wait to see you both again in a couple weeks for your big day!!! Cheers!
It's not often that we start with one of my favorite shots ever...great job guys, the rain was worth it!
Beautiful light while the rain slowed down to a light drizzle. Right about when the rain stopped, we spent some time near the pretty stream. Loved these! And who would have thought we were in Fredericksburg! So pretty! Another FAVORITE. You guys are so romantic! So I really loved these two shots below, and I don't want to take away from them, but we were all wondering what that green stuff was that I put her ring in for this shot, and as it turns out, it's a species of liverwort, a bryophyte typical for the habitat. It was super awesome looking haha! :-) This one felt so raw and beautiful to me. Jason found a stone in the shape of a heart! Perfect and cute. :-) Kristen: "Maybe you could carry me in the stream like a little baby doll" = I lost it right about then hahaha! I'm SOOO glad he carried you through the stream like a little baby doll and Kristen you're as cute and funny as ever. <3 Started and ended on very solid notes. :-) Awesome guys!
